This is a scene from the famous poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

At a Christmas/New Year's feast in Camelot, Sir Gawain takes up The Green Knight's challenge to a head chopping contest. This is, of course, a trick as the Green Knight is an enchanted being. He is seen here making his grand entrance into the hall itself to issue his challenge.

The image is surrounded by a beautiful glowing celtic border in reds and greens with pine cones on snowy branches.
